Ikpea Critiques CAF's Decision on Senegal's AFCON Title

Amb. Samuel Ikpea, the chairman of the Nigeria Football Support Club, expressed strong disapproval regarding the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to strip Senegal of their 2025 AFCON title, which they won on January 18.

This decision followed an appeal by the Moroccan FA, which CAF upheld, declaring the appeal admissible. Ikpea described the ruling as "injustice personified," warning that it could tarnish the tournament's reputation.

He noted that the decision stemmed from a situation where Senegalese players walked off the pitch during the final match, which was marked by provocations and frustrations, particularly involving the Moroccan goalkeeper and referee decisions. Ikpea emphasized that the events witnessed during the tournament were unfair and that CAF should consider implementing new laws to protect players and referees, similar to forthcoming regulations for the World Cup co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico later this year.
