Senegal Rejects CAF's Decision on AFCON 2025 Title

The Senegalese government has formally rejected the Confederation of African Football's (CAF) decision to strip the Teranga Lions of their AFCON 2025 title, which was awarded to them after defeating Morocco 1-0 in January. The CAF's ruling, which declared Senegal forfeited the match due to a controversial penalty awarded to Morocco, resulted in a 3-0 victory for Morocco.

The Senegalese government described the decision as "unprecedented" and "deeply unjust," asserting that it was based on a "manifestly erroneous" interpretation of regulations. Senegal's Football Federation (FSF) has announced plans to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), claiming the ruling breaches trust and undermines the integrity of African football.

The appeal follows a series of protests from Senegalese players during the match, including a walk-off by Idrissa Guey. CAF President Dr.

Patrice Motsepe emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and respect for the rules in football.
