Shettima and Swiss VP Discuss Bilateral Relations in Abuja

On a recent Tuesday, Kashim Shettima, Nigeria's Vice President, met with Ignazio Cassis, Switzerland's Vice President, in Abuja. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations through a multifaceted approach that includes trade, security, and cultural exchange.

They addressed the potential for a free trade agreement and emphasized skill acquisition and migration issues. Shettima highlighted the importance of improving cultural cooperation, including the return of cultural artifacts, specifically the Benin bronzes, to Nigeria.

Both leaders expressed gratitude for Nigeria's ongoing presence at the World Economic Forum in Davos. The meeting also involved discussions with Switzerland's Foreign Minister and Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, who noted the historical relationship between the two countries dating back to 1961.

Cassis expressed a desire to see Nigeria and Switzerland formalize a free trade agreement and discussed Swiss business investments in Nigeria, aiming to create favorable conditions for youth employment and peaceful coexistence.
