Student Union Praises Tinubu's Scholarship Reforms

The Student's Union, represented by Comrade Yusuf Sabiu, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's reforms regarding scholarships during a press conference in Sokoto. The union presented its scorecard for the 2025-2026 administration, emphasizing accountability and selfless service despite operating without direct government funding.

They successfully advocated for the payment of school fees for 27,000 Sokoto State students studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria and abroad for the 2024-2025 academic session. The union facilitated a verification exercise for the 2025-2026 scholarship and intervened in settling 3 billion naira in outstanding tuition obligations.

They also strengthened student representation and engaged with the Sokoto State Scholarship Board and the Ministry of Higher Education to address challenges affecting students. The administration resolved several disputes and issues related to accommodation, electricity, and water supply.

Furthermore, they implemented educational programs, including career guidance initiatives and a malaria prevention campaign, while establishing a functional office within the Ministry of Higher Education.
