Sultan Announces Crescent Search for Eid al-Fitr 2026

On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, the Sultan of Sokoto, who presides over the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, made a significant announcement regarding the end of Ramadan 1447AH. He called for Muslims across Nigeria to observe the Shawwal crescent, which signifies the conclusion of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

The Sultan's statement was signed by Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs. Muslims are encouraged to report any sightings of the crescent moon to their nearest district or village head, who will relay the information to the Sultan for verification.

To facilitate this process, the Sultanate has provided dedicated telephone lines for direct communication regarding moon sightings, including numbers such as 0803 715 7100 and 0706 714 6900. This announcement aligns with the longstanding Islamic tradition of sighting the Shawwal crescent to determine the end of the Ramadan fast.
