Sunderland Signs Belgium Defender Thomas Meunier

Sunderland has officially signed Belgium international defender Thomas Meunier on a two-year contract after his departure from French club Lill. The 34-year-old defender has an extensive career, having made 550 senior club appearances, including stints at Club Brugge, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund, and Trabzonspor.

Meunier has also earned 83 international caps for Belgium and is expected to participate in the 2026 World Cup. This signing marks Sunderland's first acquisition of the season following the departure of a forward midfielder.

Director of Football Florent Ghisolfi expressed his delight in welcoming Meunier, stating that he felt positive about the club's direction and highlighted Meunier's consistent performance at the highest level, representing some of Europe's biggest clubs and on the international stage for Belgium.
