Deborah Abiodun Out for Season with Injury

Deborah Abiodun, a midfielder for Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), will miss the rest of the season due to injury. The club announced that she has been moved from the 45-day injury list to the season-ending injury list.

Initially, Abiodun was expected to be sidelined for about two months, but the club has confirmed she will not return this season. The 22-year-old has made nine appearances for Washington Spirit this season and played a significant role for Nigeria at the 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations held in Morocco.

Following her injury, she is also anticipated to miss both legs of Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers against Comoros scheduled for next month. Abiodun is expected to undergo surgery this week.
