Super Falcons Train After Cameroon Defeat, Eye Response

The Super Falcons of Nigeria returned to training following a surprising 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, which occurred less than 24 hours prior and ended their eight-game unbeaten run. The loss was marked by a stoppage-time strike from Cameroon at the Military Stadium, handing Nigeria, a nine-time African champion, their first loss in 90 minutes against an African side since the third-place playoff defeat to Zambia in the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The team resumed training on Sunday at Stade Ahmad Ahidjo in Yaoundé, with head coach Justin Madugu focusing on a sharper response for the second leg of the double-header. Madugu has selected a 25-player squad for the friendly against Cameroon, emphasizing the importance of the match despite the recent setback.

The Super Falcons are building towards the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, where they will defend their crown and face Zambia, Egypt, and debuting Malawi in Group C, starting March 18 in Casablanca. The stakes are high, as the four semi-finalists will secure a place in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
