Supreme Court Affirms Death Sentence for Maryam Sanda in Husband's Murder Case

The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the death sentence of Maryam Sanda for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello, during a domestic dispute in 2020. The lower court initially sentenced her to death by hanging, which was later reduced to 12 years imprisonment by President Bola Tinubu.

However, the apex court, in a split decision, upheld the death sentence, ruling that the prosecution had proven the case beyond a reasonable doubt. The Court of Appeal in Abuja also upheld the decision of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) regarding the death penalty.
