Supreme Court Ruling Creates Leadership Vacuum in PDP

The Tanimu Turaki faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed serious concerns following a Supreme Court judgment that has left the party without a clear leadership structure. The ruling upheld an earlier decision by the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, which nullified the PDP convention held in Ibadan.

The judgment was delivered by a five-member panel of the Supreme Court, with a split decision of three justices supporting the ruling and two dissenting. The dissenting justices criticized the majority for raising legal points without allowing the party to respond, emphasizing that the matter was purely internal and not involving government agencies.

The Turaki faction warned that the current situation, if not urgently addressed, could weaken the PDP within Nigeria's multi-party democratic system. They called for party organs to act quickly to restore order and legitimacy within the PDP.
