Keyamo: Jonathan Disqualified from 2027 Presidential Race

Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, asserted that former President Goodluck Jonathan cannot contest the 2027 presidential election due to constitutional restrictions. In an interview, Keyamo addressed the leadership crisis within the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and discussed the implications of Jonathan's potential return to the presidential race.

He highlighted that Jonathan's chances of contesting are blocked by constitutional provisions that prevent him from returning to the ballot, as he has already served two terms. Keyamo linked this issue to the internal divisions within the PDP, particularly a faction led by Kabir Turaki, which lacks the legal backing required to present a candidate for election.

He noted that Jonathan's connection to the PDP structure may not be recognized legally, complicating his pursuit of a ticket. Jonathan first became president in 2010 following the death of Umaru Musa Yar'Adua and served until 2015, raising legal debates about his eligibility due to the two-term limit established by the 1999 constitution.
