73.1% of Nigerians Favor Mandatory Military Service for Youths

A survey revealed that 73.1% of Nigerians support the introduction of mandatory military service for youths, reflecting strong public backing for measures aimed at strengthening national security and civic responsibility. The findings were disclosed in a book titled "Serve Nation," authored by Dr.

Moham Abubakar. The survey indicated that 79.7% of respondents believe compulsory military service could help address Nigeria's pressing security challenges, including insurgency, terrorism, and banditry.

Dr. Abubakar explained that support for this proposal could instill discipline, promote patriotism, and foster national unity among Nigeria's diverse population.

He drew comparisons with countries like Finland, Israel, South Korea, and Singapore, where mandatory military service contributes to national defense readiness and civic consciousness among youth. The book, comprising 287 pages and 12 chapters, culminates Dr.

Abubakar's studies at the Military Studies University Abuja, aiming to stimulate informed debate on Nigeria's security future. Minister of Defence Christoph Musa and Colonel Georg Usib emphasized the need for innovative approaches to strengthen national service, including expanding civic service opportunities and enhancing youth skill acquisition.
