Senator Natasha Counters Senator Akpabio's Supreme Court Appeal Over Suspension Saga

Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti from Kogi Central has taken legal action by filing a counter affidavit at the Supreme Court to counter an appeal initiated by Senator Godswill Akpabio. The appeal stems from Akpabio's suspension during a Senate plenary session in February 2025 based on a recommendation by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

Akpoti and Uduaghan, through their senior legislative aide, responded to Akpabio's motion, urging the Supreme Court to dismiss the application as without merit and an abuse of the court process. The court had concluded hearing the substantive appeal on November 28, 2025, and reserved judgment.

Akpabio's attempt to exceed the court's page limit for briefs was not regularized, leading to its rejection. The legal battle continues as Akpabio seeks leave to appeal to the Supreme Court while Akpoti and Uduaghan maintain that the suspension was unlawful and violated their right to a fair hearing.
