Former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam Joins APC After Leaving PDP

Former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam has made a significant political move by joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) after leaving the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Suswam registered as an APC member at the Mbagber Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

His decision to dump the PDP was communicated in a letter dated February 4, 2026, citing unresolved internal conflicts within the PDP and a drift from its foundational values as reasons for his departure. Suswam, who has served as a member of the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2007, Governor of Benue State from 2007 to 2015, and Senator from 2019 to 2023, expressed gratitude to the PDP but highlighted his difficulty in reconciling his political philosophy with the current state of the party.

He described the PDP as lacking a credible roadmap for resolution and stated that his exit was a necessary move to align with his ideals.
