Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed Launches Digital Training for Teachers

The Federal Government has initiated a digital professional development programme aimed at enhancing teacher training and improving educational outcomes, with over 60,000 teachers already participating. Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmed, the Minister of State for Education, announced these reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, supervised by Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education.
The reforms target key areas such as teacher development, curriculum reform, and interventions for out-of-school children. An assessment revealed that only about 10 percent of teachers benefited from ₦20 billion allocated for training in 2025, highlighting the need for reform.
To address this, a zero-rated digital platform was introduced for teachers in public and private schools to access professional development using Android devices. The Comprehensive Teacher Policy is being developed in collaboration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and the Nigeria Union of Teachers, focusing on recruitment, training, and career progression.
Additionally, the national curriculum is being revised to emphasize competencies over rote learning.
