TADI Calls for Investigation into Mary Habila's Death

The Transparency and Accountability Development Initiative (TADI) has called on Nigerians, media organizations, and public commentators to refrain from speculative reporting regarding the reported death of Mary Habila, a physiotherapist at the David Umahi Teaching Hospital. Habila was reportedly found dead in Ebonyi State at the residence of Engr.

David Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works. TADI, in a statement signed by Executive Director Yomi David and Director of Programmes Tijani Usman Shehu, expressed concern over sensationalism and unverified commentary linking the incident to the Minister's residence.

They stressed the importance of a comprehensive, transparent, and impartial investigation, stating that individuals should not be prejudged while investigations are ongoing. TADI condemned the trend of convicting individuals in the court of public opinion, which could influence witnesses and undermine the justice system.

They urged relevant agencies to conduct an independent investigation based on forensic evidence and witness testimony. TADI clarified that it does not defend wrongdoing but insists on due process.
