HURIWA Demands Transparency in Mary Habila's Death

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged for transparency following the death of 26-year-old physiotherapist Mary Habila, who was discovered dead in the residence of Minister David Umahi in Uburu, Ebonyi State, on June 26, 2026. HURIWA's National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, issued a statement in Abuja, advocating for a transparent investigation to maintain public confidence in the outcome.

He emphasized that every suspicious death should be investigated impartially, regardless of the status of those involved. Onwubiko called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure the matter is handled without bias and requested a joint investigation involving the Inspector General of Police, the Department of State Services, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Nigerian Bar Association.

He also demanded a comprehensive autopsy and forensic investigation, expressing condolences to Habila's family and urging security agencies to conduct a thorough and professional inquiry.
