NWIA Urges Tinubu to Investigate Mary Habila's Death

The Nigerian Women Intern Alliance (NWIA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to initiate an independent and transparent investigation into the death of Mary Habila, a physiotherapist whose passing has sparked public concern. In an open letter dated July 13, 2026, signed by NWIA President Omolara Abik, Vice President Ogonna Chiedum, and Secretary Mariam Adeosun, the organization stressed the necessity for a thorough and impartial probe into the circumstances surrounding Habila's death.

They highlighted that every Nigerian is entitled to the constitutional presumption of innocence and due process. The letter pointed out that while there are no accusations of wrongdoing against anyone, public officials have a greater obligation to submit to scrutiny.

The NWIA argued that a transparent investigation would strengthen public confidence in government institutions and warned that failure to conduct a credible inquiry could damage Nigeria's reputation and erode investor confidence. The organization reaffirmed its support for Tinubu's administration and emphasized that no public official is above accountability.
