Nigeria Delays Fuel Tax Implementation Amid Economic Conditions

Taiwo Oyedele, chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy Tax Reform, revealed that the planned 5% fuel surcharge in Nigeria will be delayed until economic conditions are favorable. The surcharge, initially introduced by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, aims to fund road maintenance but will not increase pump prices.

Oyedele emphasized the importance of tax reform to reduce costs in the haulage and logistics sector, exempting small firms from certain taxes. The reform seeks to simplify Nigeria's tax structure and ensure revenue transparency across government tiers.
