Maru Communities Seek Help for Kidnapped Relatives

The people of Maru local government in Zamfara state are expressing deep concern for their relatives still held captive by kidnappers, as they seek public assistance to raise ransom for their release. This situation was highlighted during an announcement made after the Jumat prayer on Friday at the Sheikh Abubakar Mahmud Gummi Jumu’at Mosque in Talata Mafara.

Local resident and community chronicler, Dahiru Samaila Mafara, noted a significant change in community announcements, which have shifted from wedding announcements and special prayers to urgent pleas for help to pay ransoms. Families are struggling to meet the demands of their captors, leading to fears about the implications for safety and social cohesion in the area.

Many residents have fled Mayanchi town due to insecurity, with some reporting the loss of relatives to the ongoing conflict, while others remain in captivity.
