Tanzania and Singapore Enhance Economic Cooperation

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan visited Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to reaffirm their commitment to expanding bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities for economic collaboration. This visit coincided with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Tanzania and Singapore and marked the first official visit by a Singaporean head of state to Tanzania.

President Hassan emphasized the importance of agriculture and food security during discussions, highlighting Tanzania's interest in modern farming techniques and infrastructure investment. Singaporean investments in Tanzania currently exceed $299 million across at least 36 major projects, with expectations for continued growth.

Both leaders signed several agreements aimed at strengthening cooperation in agriculture and investment, which are expected to support Tanzania's efforts to modernize agricultural production, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve food storage systems. President Shanmugaratnam expressed confidence that the renewed partnership would enhance trade links between East Africa and Asia.
