Taraba Nursing College Students Protest Rape and Theft

On Monday, students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences in Jalingo protested against a reported theft and rape incident involving a female student. The unnamed student was allegedly raped after hoodlums attacked a female hostel outside the college premises early that morning.

Following the assault, one of her fingers was reportedly severed, and she was taken to a private hospital in the Mile 6 area of Jalingo for medical care. This incident was the second attack on the hostels within two weeks, with the first occurring the previous week.

An unnamed student union official expressed frustration over the lack of security, noting that despite a visit from the Commissioner of Tertiary Education who promised improved security measures, no action had been taken. The college has seven hostels, but many students reside off-campus, leaving them vulnerable.

Dr. Dorcas Dugule, the college's Provost, acknowledged the situation and stated she was addressing the issue. Police spokesperson Victor Mshelizah confirmed the attack but was unaware of the rape allegation at the time.
