Taraba State Ministry Addresses Nursing Students' Protest

The Taraba State Ministry of Tertiary Education intervened in a protest by students of the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, due to reports of an alleged rape and attempted robbery at a female hostel outside the institution. A delegation led by Secretary Solomon Daniel Nathaniel visited the college to engage with the protesting students.

The President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) claimed a female student was raped during the incident. The students demanded immediate relocation to on-campus hostels, giving the government a 24-hour deadline and threatening to march to the Taraba State Government House if their demands were unmet.

Goje, representing the government, appealed for calm and communicated with Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps, the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, about security measures. The government agreed to deploy security personnel to the affected hostels and scheduled a meeting with the SUG for September 22, 2026.

Despite assurances, the students continued their protest, raising concerns about their safety.
