Nigerian NGO Demands Sanctions Over Altered Tax Laws, Writes to Tinubu and National Assembly

NEFGAD, a civic advocacy group in Nigeria, has sent a letter to President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly demanding an independent investigation into alterations made to Nigeria's newly gazetted tax laws. The group, led by Jame Sowol, expressed grave concerns over confirmed changes to the tax laws, describing them as a direct assault on constitutional order and legislative integrity.

NEFGAD called for immediate sanctions against individuals or agencies involved in compromising the legislative process. Failure to take corrective action could lead to legal proceedings, including seeking redress from the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice.

NEFGAD emphasized the importance of upholding democratic institutions, the rule of law, and ensuring transparency in governance processes.
