TCN Boosts National Grid with 640MW from New Substations

The Federal Government, via the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), has successfully added 640 megawatts (MW) of transmission capacity to the national grid by commissioning six substations in Kano and Katsina states. On Wednesday, four substations were inaugurated in Kano State (Walalambe, Kumbotso, Dakata, and Dan-Agundi) contributing 544MW of wheeling capacity.
On Friday, two additional substations were commissioned in Kankia Local Government Area, Katsina State, adding 96MW. Minister of Power Joseph Tegbe credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to power sector reforms, stating that the projects support economic ambitions through dependable infrastructure.
Tegbe emphasized the importance of community protection of these assets. Katsina State Governor Mallam Dikko Umaru Radda hailed the project as a landmark investment, asserting that reliable electricity would foster economic growth and improve public services.
The commissioning events were attended by officials from the Federal Ministry of Power, TCN, and Kano Electricity Distribution Company, along with members of the Katsina State Executive Council.
