Team Nigeria Heads to Botswana for Lefika Relays

Team Nigeria will depart on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, for the Lefika Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, as part of their efforts to qualify for the World Relay Championship scheduled for May 2026. The team will be airlifted by Ethiopian Airlines, with a scheduled stopover in Addis Ababa, arriving in Gaborone on March 26, 2026.

Nigeria will compete in four events: men's 4x100m, mixed 4x100m, men's 4x400m, and mixed 4x400m relays. The primary objective is to secure qualification spots for the World Relay Championship.

Notably, the women's 4x100m and women's 4x400m relay teams have already qualified for the global event. The Nigerian delegation will include top officials from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), such as President Tonobok Okowa, Secretary General Israel Inwang, and Technical Director Gabriel Okon.

The team features a blend of youth and experience, with athletes like Enaruna Anita and Itohan Badmu. The squad has been refining their baton exchange strategy over the last six weeks in Asaba, Delta State, supported by strong administrative backing from the NSC and AFN.
