Team Nigeria Secures Three Relay Tickets in Gaborone

Team Nigeria successfully clinched three global relay tickets at the 2026 World Relays held in Gaborone on May 3. The team qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, marking a significant achievement.

The mixed 4x100m relay team opened Nigeria's account by securing a ticket and setting an African record. The mixed 4x400m quartet, consisting of Samson Nathaniel, Mari Kudoro, Chidi Okezi, and Patience Okon, delivered a season's best time of 3:12.88, finishing second behind South Africa, who clocked 3:12.77.

The Nigerian team faced challenges in other events, with the men's 4x100m team finishing third with a time of 38.50, falling short of qualification behind Belgium and Jamaica. The men's 4x400m team also missed qualification with a time of 3:01.43, just behind Spain and Senegal.

The women's 4x400m team did not start the repechage race, resulting in Nigeria securing three relay tickets in total.
