Lawyer Critiques INEC's Role in ADC Leadership Crisis

Human rights lawyer Inibeh Effiong has publicly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its handling of the leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Effiong's remarks come in light of INEC's decision to remove David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as national chairman and secretary, respectively.

He raised concerns about a "sinister conspiracy" aimed at undermining the transparency of the electoral process ahead of the 2027 elections. Effiong noted that a court case is pending regarding the recognition of Nafiu Bala as the national chairman, which could create a leadership vacuum within the party.

He accused INEC of potentially acting in favor of ruling parties, suggesting that the developments could weaken opposition parties and allow Bola Tinubu to run unopposed in the upcoming elections. Effiong called for INEC to clarify its position publicly to ensure fair electoral competition.
