Tension at King’s College as Staff Protest Old Boys’ Entry

Tension arose at King’s College in Lagos when staff union members protested against the Old Boys’ Association's attempt to enter the school premises for a scheduled press conference. The association's President, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, addressed the press outside the main gate, asserting that the Federal Government had authorized the management of the college to the Old Boys on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis.

He clarified that this arrangement does not equate to the sale or privatization of the college, emphasizing the Old Boys' commitment to enhancing the institution's infrastructure. Ibrahim-Imam assured that there are no plans to increase school fees and expressed a desire to restore the college to its former state.

He also promised to double the salaries and allowances of teachers who choose to remain under the PPP arrangement, while providing options for those who wish to leave. The Old Boys’ Association aims to address the dilapidated facilities of the over 100-year-old institution.
