Gunmen Attack Schools in Oyo, Teacher Killed, Pupils Abducted

On Friday, armed men invaded three schools in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State, resulting in the death of a teacher, Joel Adesiyan, and the abduction of several pupils and staff members, including the principal of Community Grammar School, Rachael Alamu. The attack began around 9 AM when gunmen on motorcycles opened fire as pupils assembled for morning activities.

Eyewitnesses described the incident as one of the boldest attacks in recent years, with residents fleeing for safety. The assailants swiftly surrounded the schools and moved victims to a nearby forest.

The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the fatalities and abductions, while local leaders expressed concern over the lack of security in the area. Following the attack, the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board announced the temporary closure of schools in Oriir and neighboring local government areas to ensure the safety of pupils.

Security operations have been launched to rescue the victims and track down the attackers.
