Emohua LG Workers Protest Seven Months of Unpaid Salaries

Workers in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State staged a protest due to seven months of unpaid salaries, expressing their frustration and hardship through placards and solidarity songs. The protest highlighted the prolonged neglect and inability of workers to meet basic needs, including feeding, rent, and school fees for their children.

The workers accused the local government leadership of insensitivity, stating that despite repeated appeals, no concrete actions had been taken to address their plight. In response, the council chairman, Dr.

Chidi Llyod, defended the delay, explaining that it was due to an ongoing staff verification exercise aimed at eliminating ghost workers and reducing financial leakage within the system. He assured the workers that payments would be made once the verification exercise was concluded and urged them to remain calm and cooperate with the process.

The protest underscored growing discontent among local government workers regarding their welfare at the grassroots level.
