Cross River LG Workers Protest Nine-Month Salary Delay

Workers from the Cross River State Local Government staged a peaceful protest on Monday at the governor's office in Calabar, demanding the payment of their salaries, which have been delayed for nine months. They expressed that the prolonged delay has caused severe hardship, making it difficult for them to provide for their families and pay school fees.

The workers submitted a letter detailing their plight and appealed to Governor Bassey Otu for urgent intervention. Secretary to the State Government, Anthony Enoh, responded by acknowledging the workers' rights to protest and assured that the government is addressing the issue.

He mentioned that several meetings have been held to resolve the matter, with a final meeting scheduled to address the recruitment and payroll issues. Enoh explained that the delay was partly due to the need to verify genuine employees and resolve administrative issues within the commission.

He encouraged the workers to remain patient as the government works to ensure that genuine employees are placed on the payroll.
