Tension Rises in Warri as Ijaw and Itsekiri Clash, One Feared Dead Amid Renewed Hostility

Tension escalated in Warri, Delta State, as clashes between the Ijaw and Itsekiri communities resulted in one reported death. Gunfire was heard across Warri, with residents, including youth from both groups, fleeing in panic.

The conflict began after accusations that an Ijaw youth was shot by an Itsekiri counterpart, following a dispute over a billboard commemorating a coronation anniversary. The police presence was reportedly lacking during the unrest.

Despite conflicting reports, the Delta State Police denied any deaths, stating that one person was injured and receiving treatment. The Police Command deployed personnel to maintain law and order and urged calm between the Ijaw and Itsekiri leaders.
