West Africa Urged to Establish Standby Force Amid Terrorism Threats

The rise of terrorism and violent extremism in West Africa has prompted calls for a regional Standby Force to combat the threats. President of ECOWAS Commission, Omar Touray, stressed the urgent need for funding to address the challenges posed by terrorism in the region.

The Global Terrorism Index (GTI) highlighted Africa, particularly the Sahel region, as a growing hotspot for terrorist activities. A recent meeting in Abuja discussed various proposals to mobilize funds for the regional force to counter terrorism effectively.

Funding has been a major obstacle in the fight against terrorism in the region, hindering efforts to eliminate terrorist backers.
