Defence Minister Urges Stronger Regional Action Against Terrorism

Nigeria's Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, emphasized the need for stronger regional cooperation to combat terrorism in the ECOWAS and Sahel regions. At a conference on combating emerging terrorist groups, the Minister highlighted terrorism as a significant threat to the region's security and economy.

He outlined three key priorities: integrating intelligence sharing, institutionalizing joint military operations, and addressing the root causes of radicalization. The Minister's call for enhanced regional action aligns with Nigeria's commitment to fighting terrorism and promoting peace in West Africa and the Sahel.

The proposed strategies aim to disrupt terror networks, operationalize the ECOWAS standby force, and prevent extremist groups from finding safe havens.
