Woman Pleads Guilty to Aiding ISWAP in Nasarawa

On October 7, 2026, Sumaiya Abubakar pleaded guilty to supporting members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) by keeping arms and ammunition in Nasarawa State. She was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on two counts of terrorism-related offences, as per charge number FHC/ABJ/CR/418/2026.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, accused her of committing the offence in 2024 in the Shinge area of Lafia Local Government Area, Nasarawa State. Abubakar, originally from Shuwari village in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, admitted to the second count of the charges while pleading not guilty to the first.
The prosecution counsel, M.A. Oladunjoye, requested the court to convict her on the count she admitted and withdrew the first count, which Justice Salim Ibrahim struck out.
The judge ordered a review of the facts before sentencing and remanded Abubakar in the custody of the Department of State Services until the next hearing on October 14.
