FCT Police Convict Ammunition Suppliers to Kidnappers

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully convicted Yau Sule and his sister, Mariya Sule, for unlawful possession of live ammunition and their suspected involvement in supplying ammunition to kidnappers and other criminal elements in the North-Central region and the FCT. The suspects were apprehended on June 2, 2026, during intelligence-led operations, with Yau Sule arrested while traveling along the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

Police recovered 81 rounds of 7.62mm live AK-47 ammunition and 100 rounds of 7.62mm belted ammunition for a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) during the operation. Following further investigations, Mariya Sule was also arrested for her role in the ammunition supply network.

They were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Court 1, Dutse-Alhaji, on charge number CR/DUT/1132/2026 and convicted under the Firearms Act. On August 24, 2026, the court sentenced both to 250 days’ imprisonment without the option of a fine, to be served at the Suleja Correctional Centre.

SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s spokesperson, stated that the conviction demonstrates the police's commitment to dismantling criminal networks threatening the security of residents.
