Terrorists Kill Brigadier General in Borno State Attack

On Thursday, a report confirmed that Brigadier General O.O. Braimah was killed by unidentified terrorists during an overnight attack on a military base in Benisheikh, located 75 kilometers from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The assault resulted in the deaths of at least 18 soldiers and the burning of military vehicles. Zannah Lawan Ajimi, the local government chairman of Kaga, confirmed Braimah's death in a phone interview, which was corroborated by two intelligence sources.

This incident follows the killing of another high-ranking military officer, Brigadier General Musa Uba, by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in November. The ongoing conflict, which has persisted since Boko Haram's uprising in 2009, has seen a resurgence in violence, with warnings of increased terrorist activity expected to continue into 2025.

The U.S. State Department has also advised non-emergency government employees to leave Abuja due to the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria's northeastern region.
