Tesla Launches Cybercab with Starlink Antenna Integration

Tesla has introduced the first Cybercab with an integrated Starlink satellite antenna built into the roof at Gigafactory Texas. The vehicle, showcased in photos, features a low-profile antenna and a "Cybercab" badge.

The Cybercab, which was unveiled in October 2024, is designed as a $30,000 two-seat robotaxi without a steering wheel or pedals. Production commenced earlier this year, with over 100 units spotted by July.

However, the Cybercab operates using Tesla's onboard AI4 computer and does not require an internet connection to drive, functioning in urban areas with strong cellular coverage. Critics suggest that the Starlink integration may primarily serve as a revenue stream for SpaceX rather than fulfilling a genuine need for the robotaxi service.

The integration raises concerns about added costs and weight, as the satellite link is deemed redundant in the markets where the robotaxis currently operate.
