TETFund Calls for Innovation Focus Among Nigerian Researchers

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has called on Nigerian academics and researchers to prioritize practical innovations that tackle societal challenges and create economic opportunities. This appeal was made by the Executive Secretary of TETFund, Dr Sonny Echono, through the Assistant Director of Research and Development, Dr Hadiza Ismail, at the closing ceremony of the 35th cohort of the Research for Impact Initiative in Abuja.
Echono highlighted the importance of empowering scholars to develop local solutions, stating that Nigeria must enhance its capacity for home-grown technologies. He noted that technological advancement is crucial for economic transformation and that investment in education, research, and innovation is vital for sustainable development.
The Research for Impact Initiative aims to reposition public tertiary institutions as key players in a knowledge-based economy. The second edition of the TETFund National Research Fair and Exhibition is scheduled for November 23 to 27, 2026, in Abuja, providing a platform for researchers to showcase their innovations.
