ICPC Denies El-Rufai Nosebleed Allegations in Custody

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has publicly dismissed allegations that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai experienced a nosebleed while in custody. ICPC spokesperson Okor Odei characterized the claims as untrue.

The allegations surfaced following a report from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which indicated that El-Rufai was detained for two nights while being investigated for financial improprieties during his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. Muyiwa Adekeye, a spokesman for El-Rufai, stated that the legal team had not been shown a remand order authorizing continued detention beyond 48 hours without charges.

Family members of El-Rufai's legal representatives have reported difficulties in securing access to him. The ICPC and EFCC are investigating allegations involving the misappropriation of 432 billion naira in public funds, with recommendations for prosecution forthcoming.
