ICPC Denies El-Rufai Nosebleed Claims During Detention

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has refuted claims made by Muyiwa Adekey, media aide to former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, that El-Rufai experienced a nosebleed during his detention. ICPC spokesman Okor Odei stated that the allegations are false and misleading, confirming that El-Rufai remains in stable condition while in custody.

El-Rufai was detained on February 18 as part of an investigation into alleged financial improprieties linked to his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. Adekey raised concerns about the legality of El-Rufai's continued detention without a court order, which he argues justifies holding him beyond 48 hours without charges.

Additionally, he noted that El-Rufai's access to legal counsel and family members has been restricted, complicating their ability to see him. The ICPC is conducting a broader probe to ensure accountability among public officials, although specific charges and timelines for potential arraignment have not been disclosed.
