Olamilekan Adeola Secures APC Backing for Ogun Governorship

Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, known as Yayi, is the APC’s consensus governorship candidate for Ogun in 2027. Ogun West has never produced a governor since the state's establishment in 1976, which underscores the significance of Adeola's candidacy.

His political journey began in the House of Representatives for Alimosho before moving to the Senate, where he currently chairs the Appropriations Committee. In June, Governor Dapo Abiodun presented Adeola and his running mate to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

Two months later, Tinubu referred to Adeola as a dependable political ally in a birthday message, a notable endorsement. Abiodun's support is interpreted as an effort to influence his political legacy as he completes his second term.

Adeola has publicly acknowledged Tinubu and Osoba as mentors and Abiodun as a role model, framing his campaign as a continuation of existing leadership. The APC’s 2027 campaign council includes Abiodun, Osoba, and former governors Gbenga Daniel and Ibikunle Amosun, indicating a fragile yet significant political coalition.
