Pat Utomi Urges Collective Action for Nigeria's Change

Professor Pat Utomi, a political economist and public intellectual, stated that Nigerians should not rely on any individual political figure to rescue the country, emphasizing that meaningful change must arise from the collective will of the people. Speaking on Arise News, Utomi discussed the potential for opposition parties to collaborate ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that they do not need to merge into a single party to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu.

He argued that cooperation on common issues would enhance their efforts. Utomi criticized the obsession with power in Nigerian politics, stating that merely replacing one individual with another would not resolve the country's challenges.

He described the belief in a "messiah" politician as a "messiah complex" and called for a collective agreement on the desired political direction for Nigeria. He stressed that the decisive factor in changing Nigeria's political landscape should be the collective will of its citizens.
