Keyamo Critiques Opposition's Single Candidate Strategy

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, responded critically to the opposition's initiative to present a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections. In an interview with Vanguard, he described the move as "ill conceived" and highlighted the complications that could arise from merging opposition parties.

Keyamo warned that such arrangements could alienate party members who are already preparing for the elections. He drew attention to previous attempts at forming opposition alliances that failed, suggesting that a successful coalition requires a public declaration.

The context of his remarks followed a meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, where key opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Rauf Aregbesola, David Mark, and Kabiru Turaki, pledged to present a joint presidential candidate to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming elections.
