Wike Rejects APC Governors' Demand for Party Loyalty

On September 15, 2026, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), rejected the All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum's demand that politicians supporting President Bola Tinubu's re-election must also back APC candidates at all levels. Wike criticized the governors as "politically lazy" and argued that supporting Tinubu in the presidential election does not require automatic support for APC candidates in other elections.

He pointed out that the 2023 elections showed that voters could choose candidates from different parties on the same day. Wike stated that his support for Tinubu is based on his belief that the presidency should remain in the South for another term.

He also claimed that the governors' declaration was more about protecting their political interests than about Tinubu's re-election, warning that they could not dictate political outcomes.
