Nigerian Pilgrims Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Saudi Arabia Released After Diplomatic Efforts

Three Nigerian pilgrims accused of drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia have been released after four weeks in custody. The pilgrims, Maryam Hussain, Abdullahi Bahijja, and Aminu Abdulhamid, were detained in Jeddah following their arrival on a flight from Kano.

The release followed diplomatic efforts led by the NDLEA's Brig. Mohamed Buba Marwa in collaboration with Saudi authorities.

The pilgrims were supported by various Nigerian officials, including President Bola Tinubu and the Ministers of Justice, Foreign Affairs, and Aviation. The arrest was made after a bag containing illicit substances was found in their possession upon arrival.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the drug syndicate involved.
