Nigerian woman detained in Saudi Arabia after airline error links her to bag of marijuana

A Nigerian woman, Maryam, was detained in Saudi Arabia due to an airline error that wrongly linked her to a bag of marijuana. Maryam and her husband, Abdullahi Baffa, were on a pilgrimage when Saudi authorities claimed a suspicious bag with her name was found.

The couple had traveled with Ethiopian Airlines, and upon arrival in Jeddah, one of their bags went missing. Despite attempts to resolve the issue, Maryam was detained pending investigation as her name was allegedly linked to the suspicious bag.

Baffa accused the airline of negligence and demanded a resolution. The Nigerian Consulate in Madinah is involved, and the Nigerian government has been urged to intervene.

Saudi Arabia has strict drug laws, making possession of narcotics a serious offense. Maryam remains in custody as the investigation continues.
