Tinubu Appoints Rilwan Babalola as Power Adviser

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu appointed Rilwan Babalola as Special Adviser on Power and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Power Sector Reset. This appointment was announced via a statement from the State House.

Babalola, a former Minister of Power, is expected to spearhead the administration's renewed efforts to tackle longstanding challenges in the electricity sector. The task force will operate under a presidential mandate to enhance coordination across power sector agencies and drive a comprehensive reset of the electricity value chain.

Its mandate includes implementing performance expansion frameworks, reducing technical and commercial losses, strengthening cost discipline, and ensuring tariff integration to improve revenue and restore grid discipline. The task force aims to deliver a 90-day implementation blueprint.

Additionally, the President is restructuring the office of the Special Adviser on Energy to clarify roles and avoid duplication within the energy governance framework.
