Tinubu's Historic State Visit to the UK Begins

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in the United Kingdom on a historic state visit on Tuesday, March 18, 2023, accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu. This visit, the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years, was made at the invitation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Upon arrival at London Stansted Airport at 3:18 PM, President Tinubu was welcomed by Mark Bevan, Deputy Lieutenant of Essex, and other senior officials, including Moham Maidugu, the Nigerian High Commissioner to the UK. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations and explore investment opportunities between Nigeria and the UK.

Notably, President Tinubu is scheduled to host an event at Windsor Castle on March 18-19, where a special exhibit related to Nigeria will be showcased. He is also expected to meet UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street to discuss expanding bilateral engagement and signing several memoranda of understanding covering trade, investment, defense, and cultural cooperation.

Additionally, a landmark £746 million financing agreement will be signed with UK Export Finance to support the refurbishment of key maritime infrastructure, including the Lagos Port Complex and Apapa Quay.
